How to Set Up a BLADE Beer Machine and Keg
Setting up a BLADE beer machine is straightforward, but the temperature of the keg and the way it is fitted make a major difference to the first pour. This practical guide covers the essentials for serving draught beer at home.
Before you begin
- Place the machine on a flat, stable surface.
- Leave adequate ventilation around it and keep it away from direct heat or sunlight.
- Use an undamaged 8L keg made specifically for the BLADE system.
- Inspect the keg, packaging and nozzle before installation. Do not tap a keg that is leaking or visibly damaged.
1. Chill the keg
A properly chilled keg produces a much better pour. If possible, chill the unopened keg in a refrigerator before installation. A warm keg can take considerably longer to reach serving temperature and is more likely to produce excessive foam.
2. Prepare the machine
Make sure the machine is clean, connected to a suitable power supply and positioned securely. BLADE machines supplied by The Beer God may have an EU two-pin plug; use a suitable approved adapter and do not modify the power cable.
3. Fit the keg
Follow the fitting sequence supplied with your particular BLADE machine and keg. Ensure the tube and tap connection are seated correctly and avoid forcing any part into position. Close the machine only when the keg is properly located.
4. Allow it to reach serving temperature
The BLADE system is designed to serve beer at approximately 2°C. Wait until the machine indicates that the keg is ready before judging the pour. Cooling time varies depending on the starting temperature of the keg and the room.
5. Pour correctly
- Use a clean beer glass.
- Open the tap fully in one confident movement rather than partially opening it.
- Hold the glass at approximately 45 degrees as the beer begins to flow.
- Straighten the glass gradually to form the head.
- Close the tap fully at the end of the pour.
If the beer is too foamy
Excessive foam is most often associated with temperature, glass condition or pouring technique. Check that the keg has reached serving temperature, use a clean glass and open the tap fully. If the problem continues, inspect the keg connection and visit our BLADE support page.
How much beer is in a BLADE keg?
An 8L BLADE keg contains approximately 14 imperial pints. Once tapped and kept correctly chilled in the machine, it can remain fresh for up to 30 days.
